Weddings

I became a wedding photographer purely by chance. In fact I don’t call myself a wedding photographer, I am a photographer. I take on all kind of photography commissions from small intimate weddings with just a handful of people to lavish banquets where the guest list can be in the hundreds or even thousands, to photographing a Levis or Pamper’s campaign, a fashion magazine, a 5 Star Hotel such as The Mandarin to a Beauty Advertisement. I photograph babies (mostly for my wedding couples a few years after their weddings) families and pets. I am a photographer who does not categorise myself, to me every photo needs careful composing patience and capturing the best moment no matter what I am photographing. Every job is just as important as the last. I put as much effort, thought, creative spirit and expertise into what ever my subject or commission might be. I think this is why (or so I have been told!) that my wedding photos are so different to the regular run of the mill wedding photographs, the type you usually see everywhere else.

My photos are never the same, I don’t have a “formula” that I use for every wedding, I go with the flow, capturing everything that I see in candid and unobtrusive way whilst still capturing the beauty and romance of the day. I pull all my experience and knowledge from many years of photographing Beauty, Fashion and Commercials and from being on the other side of the camera into creating wedding photos that look like they have come straight out of a magazine.

I do have a few little tricks up my sleeve to help when things need to be a little more staged like during group shots, but I still like to keep these as natural, fun and as pain free as possible! Getting the formal shots photographed as quickly as possible so you can mingle with your guests and enjoy your day leaving me free to photograph the true essence of your day.

Having been based for over 20 years in Hong Kong firstly as a Fashion model and then a director and owner of a Model Agency I soon found myself on the other side of the camera primarily to help our models build up their portfolios.

It soon became obvious that photography was where my true passion and skill would take off onto levels I never dreamed of and I fell into an amazing career that has taken me to far corners of the World on the most amazing assignments and weddings.

Many people ask me how I first got into Wedding Photography, it was purely by chance, I was photographing my best friend’s bridal dress label – Augusta Jone’s, (we actually met when I modeled for her many moons a go and I later asked if she could make my wedding dress! Which turned out gorgeous by the way and custom designed -we instantly became good friends) and she displayed some of the photos I had taken of her dresses in her showroom and shops and before long brides were asking who took the photos and that was how it all started. Not being shy of taking on a new challenge I agreed to my first wedding and couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed it and the thrill of the couple seeing their photos for the first time and then the bride bursting into tears from the passion I had captured in the images. It was a magical and addictive feeling, one that I wanted more of! Word of mouth spread fast and I was soon photographing weddings every week.

I am now residing in the UK, whilst still keeping a base in Hong Kong, I prefer not to travel around quite as much as I have done in the past. I am focusing on weddings in England. I do still take on destination weddings but I try to limit these to only once or twice a month!

Many of my UK clients are Chinese since I managed to pick up Cantonese during my 20 years in the Far East and I have in depth knowledge of all the Chinese customs and wedding traditions. I have also photographed many Indian weddings, Jewish and of course hundreds of English Weddings in venues all over London and the UK.
