When Hong Kong couple Cherry and Man asked me not only to photograph their wedding but also photograph their pre wedding in New York I was very excited since I have never shot a pre wedding in America before.

I arrived a few days early to check out all the locations I wanted to include in the shoot. Cherry and Man also had a few places that were special to them since they both went to university in New York and shared many sentimental memories there.

I was mesmerised by the amount of choice and stunning backgrounds that I could use for the two-day shoot. In the end we shot for three days because the first two days were raining non stop! But I used the rain to my advantage with shots that featured rain on taxi windows and the colourful neon lights of Times Square  reflecting off of the wet pavements – just like  you see in a magazine ad for DKNY or similar!  It was great fun and even though we were all soaking wet by the end of the evening it was well worth it.

Everyone in New York was really helpful and polite, we had no problems shooting around the major attractions, people went out of their way not to get in the way of my camera and the experience was exceptional. We got so many different shots, too many to show here in this blog.

I have hardly edited these photos, just a slight colour  and contrast adjustment, no other retouching of any other kind.  I think they look nice just as they are, natural and a bit raw. Sometimes less is more, I don’t like all this heavy retouching favoured by many other photographers. I like my photos to still look like they have been taken with film. I will even add some grain to enhance the effect.

Cherry and Man were very shy and  a bit embarrassed about being photographed at first. However, with their warm  and fun personalities  it wasn’t long before they came out of their shells and felt comfortable infront of the camera.

To get a quote on a pre wedding shoot please ask for a quote, I love  new ideas and new places and always make each shoot personal and intimate to each couple.

Thank you to Cherry and Man. They are an amazing couple and their love for each other shined through in all the photos. I am really looking forward to your wedding in New York in September. Thank you so much for choosing me as your photographer, I feel flattered!

And a BIG thank you to Cherry’s sister, Angel, who came all the way from Hong Kong as well to do Cherry’s hair and make up. (Very useful to have a sister who is a make up artist!!!) She was very professional and helped throughout the shoot, not just in the hair and make up.

Another thank you to my brilliant and every so patient Emma who is my assistant and got even more soaked than we did as she was trying to protect us and my camera equipment from the elements! We all had so much fun together and we made such a great team. I didn’t want the shoot to end…

Cherry and Man’s pre wedding shoot is going to be featured in Hong Kong Tatler magazine soon, I will post it for you all to see :)
